cold river dipping

I grew up in the Northeastern state of Maine, where winters seemed to last 8 months out of the year and the summer season was always fast & furious. I remember how I used to love swimming in cold water.  Now I find myself at 38, pregnant with #4, sitting on the riverbank all layered up while my three wild ones do the sub-polar Magellanic dip.

A brief moment of sunshine cuts the edge off the cold enough to get my two oldest to go in catiously.

Watch me go deeper!" my long-haired, wild, boy calls out to me.
